All Matching numbers including magazine & rare NZ issue Savage No. 4 Mk1* as part of the US Lend Lease programme. This fine example was a Lend-Lease rifle & issued to the NZ military, as can be evidenced by the NZ markings on both the rifle & magazine. The No. 4 rifle led to the No. 4Mk1* in 1942, with the bolt release catch replaced by a simpler notch on the bold track of the rifle’s receiver and a flip up peep sight for easier target acquisition. Unlike the SMLE which had a very recognisable nose cap, the No.4 Lee Enfield barrel protruded from the end of the fore stock. The MK1* was only produced by Long Branch in Canada & Stevens-Savage Firearms in the USA and the rifle is stamped “US PROPERTY” on the receiver. The rifling is clear and stock in excellent condition. If you are looking for a shootable rifle for service competitions at your club, this would be it or, if you are a collector looking for a unique rifle this is definitely a great choice.
