​This is a DWM/BKIW commercial Luger, one of the ‘Alphabet Commercial’ Lugers as described by Jan Still in his “Weimar Lugers” book published in 1993. He separately identified the s, t, and u suffixes as the "29 DWM" Luger, (aka the "BKIW-Mauser Transitional DWM" Luger) due to their presumed production year and preponderantly police association. The toggle has the DWM stamp, the chamber does not have a date stamp and the serial number is in the mid U-suffix range. The barrel extension is marked with crowned “N” commercial proof and no military proof stamps. The 29 DWM was originally equipped with the Police-specific sear safety and the magazine well safety; and like many seen examples, this well safety has been removed. Post WWI the DWM company was renamed Berlin-Karlsruher Industrie-Werke AG (BKIW) in 1922. Negotiations for the transfer of DWM Luger production to Mauser began in January 1930, and the actual transfer began in early February.
