Towards the end of 1944 a new rifle designated the No.5 was introduced, known as the 'Jungle Carbine' calibre .303. The bayonet for this rifle , the No.5 Mk.1 was a departure from previous designs, having a fullered bowie blade of 8 inches. In early production the wood grips were secured with one bolt, to be found unsatisfactory., and was replaced with 2 bolts in the grips. The fixing slot on the No.5 bayonet is circular, similar to the M 1863 Whitworth bayonet.. The scabbard is plain steel with a steel throat, the Mk.1 scabbard. There are several Makers of the No.5 Mk.1 bayonet, WILKINSON SWORD being the first. A British No.5 Mk.1 bayonet with a British Mk.1 steel throat scabbard, manufactured by WILKINSON SWORD (W.S.C.
