Antique Colt London Model 1878 455 Calibre. Revolver with Pall Mall Address Scarce 1880s double action in 455 calibre. Certainly a rare find Colt for this country, Colt Model 1878 Double action revolver, made circa the 1880s in Hartford, Connecticut and was shipped to Colt’s London Agency. Chambered in the .455 which is a harder one to find in this British cartridge! This revolver is often referred to as the "Frontier" or the "Double Action Army" revolver. The Model 1878 was designed by William Mason, Colt's factory manager and Charles Brinckerhoff Richards, Superintendent of Engineering. The top of the barrel is roll-stamped in one line with Colt’s London Agency markings of “Colt’s PT.F.A. MFG. CO. Hartford CT. U.S.A. Depot 14. Pall Mall London”. The overall condition is Very Good. The action is excellent and the cylinder locks up tight on each chamber. The bore is in great shape with strong rifling. The grips are solid. The number on the toe of the grip frame is serial number of 988 also on the cylinder. The back of the cylinder has the last 3 digits of the serial number in common. There are London proofs on the barrel and in the flutes of the cylinder. A nice piece. Barrel is 5-1/2 inches. Caliber: .455
