Comment: Rare & Desirable Charles Smith & Sons, Newark on Trent, England 8 Gauge Single Barrel Breechloading Shotgun with Jones Underlever, 8 Ga, mfg. circa 1880. Overall the shotgun remains in very nice untouched original condition. The Damascus barrel measures 36" long and features a brass bead front sight. It is Birmingham proofed with "Charles Smith & Sons Newark On Trent" inscribed on the top flat. The lock is also inscribed "Charles Smith & Sons" with light border engraving throughout. The case hardened frame retains most of the original finish, while the barrel retains 60% rich browned Damascus pattern. Original horn forend cap, Original hammer, trigger, Jones underlever, and Nickel Silver nameplate escutcheon. The action features a rebounding safety and is crisp and functions perfectly. Original firing pin and extractor. The barrel locks up tight against the frame with no play whatsoever and the underlever snaps into place beneath the triggerguard. The bore is smooth and incredibly mirror clean as if it was never used and just held in storage. The gun weighs a hefty yet manageable 10 lbs 14 oz. A very nice and honest example of a fine English 8G! More photos on request.
