Imperial Japanese Naval model 1883 officers sword in very good condition , cherry blossom decorations throughout, ray skin and wire wrap grip in great condition, gold gilding to hand guard in excellent condition, black leather scabbard with cherry blossom decorated fittings with attachment rings in very good condition, original leather blade washer is present, no chips or rust on blade. These swords were issued from 1883 and were unofficially carried by senior naval officers after the transition back to traditional style Japanese swords until the end of WW2. This is an early example indicated by the black leather scabbard wrap, deep inlay floral decorations and gold gilding to the guard.
