UBER RARE – Understood to be only 288 ever made. The Savage Trial Handgun was specifically made when the U.S. Army were wanting a new service firearm in the early 1900’s, Colt eventually won the contract for the U.S/ armed forces with the 1911 pistol. This firearm is Serial Number 97 of 288.

The Savage Model 1907 .45 ACP trials pistol was an experimental semi-automatic handgun entered by Savage Arms into the 1907 U.S. military trials to find a standard-issue service sidearm. It ultimately lost to John Browning's design, which became the iconic Colt M1911.

• Entered the 1907 U.S. Army trials scaled up from its standard .32 ACP design to handle the powerful new .45 ACP round.
• Competed closely against submissions from Colt and DWM (Luger)
• Lost the final 1911 endurance test when the Savage design broke down during a 6,000-round trial, while Colt’s design succeeded.
