Comment: Rare British Pattern 1837 Brunswick Rifle. A British Ordnance muzzle-loading percussion rifle featuring a back-action lock and a hook breech. Less than 5,500 of this pattern rifle were made and they were mainly issued to the Rifle Brigade and Kings Royal Rifle Regiment. The lock on this rifle is engraved Rl Manufactory Enfield 1842, showing where and when it as made. It has a .75" calibre, 30-inch barrel of twist construction, the rifling is very worn, the bayonet bar and rear sight are missing and there is some shallow external pitting near the breech. The lock is in very good condition and the stock is also - it has been restocked as evidenced by there being no Ordnance stamps on the woodwork. In good condition these rifles, if they can be found, fetch in excess of $5000.
