Antique Muzzle-Loading Percussion Pistol ---- British Pattern 1842 Constabulary Pistol. A British Ordnance Pistol issued to Australian Colonial Police and for Mounted Police in particular. These are scarce in Australia and rare in England. 6-inch, .65" calibre, smooth-bore barrel. It is fitted with a swivel (captive) ramrod which was to prevent the rod being dropped when reloading on horseback. Its lock bears the crown over VR royal cypher on its tail and 1854 TOWER in the center along with the small crowned-arrow Board of Ordnance acceptance stamp. The lock functions well and the pistol is complete except for a small piece absent from the edge of the ramrod head. A modern serial number has been applied discreetly to the trigger guard. A historic firearm connected directly with Australia's convict, bushranger & goldrush era. Sold as collector item only. Contact me for more photos.
