Comment: Up for sale is a piece of history. We have a 1901 Lee Enfield MK1* chambered in .303 in very good condition for its age. This varient has a shorter 24.5" barrel which was the replacement for the 30.2" barrel "Long Lee" MLE MK1. The transition from the "Long Lee" (Magazine Lee-Enfield/MLE) to the Short Magazine Lee-Enfield (SMLE) was directly influenced by the British Army's experience during the Second Boer War (1899–1902). The Boer War highlighted deficiencies in the long rifles and carbines, leading to a new, standardized "universal" rifle concept. This amazing rifle includes a rare variation, a "dial" long-range volley sight on the left side of the stock. A piece of history, in store ready for inspection and purchase.
