Here we have an absolutely amazing and rare piece with a fascinating history.
This is an original Mauser Model 1871 Cavalry Carbine in 11.15x60R Mauser, (.43 Mauser) produced by Dreyse in Sömmerda, Germany. This is the same Dreyse that produced the famous Dreyse needle rifle. The Dreyse Needle gun was revolutionary in the fact that it was the first breechloading rifle to use bolt action to open and close the chamber. Dreyse manufactured only a very small quantity of M1871 Mauser long rifles, and even fewer carbines. From what I can find, the highest serial number recorded is in the 5XX range. I have been informed that the S/N on this rifle indicates this most likely would have been the first year of production.
On the tang Chinese characters can be seen, which, based on markings and historical records, indicate that this rifle was sent to China and likely used by Chinese

The rifle is in very good condition for its age. There is no rust, and everything on the rifle is completely matching, including each screw
