This 22 Cadet trainer began as a No.1 Mk III* in 1920 under Lithgow, donning parts from each of the annexes in NSW inc. Lithgow (MA), Bathurst (BA) Forbes (FA) and Wellington (WA).
The right side of the butt is marked MA 6/1950 No.2 Mk IV* R indicating the month / year this rifle was re-purposed from 303 (R indicates Replacement Barrel) to 22 calibre in the Lithgow factory and from there widely used in cadet units up until 1975. These No.2 Mk IV* were the only 22 SMLE made by Lithgow.
