Selling an original French Lebel Model 1886 rifle with a super rare first pattern side-mount base for a Winchester A5 scope. This is one of the early sniper-style mounts trialed in WWI during the scramble to combat German snipers on the front ‚extremely hard to find in any condition. Rifle was made at the Tulle arsenal in 1897 and still has its original matching Tulle barrel with good rifling. Also included is an original first pattern cruciform bayonet with a steel handle and matching scabbard. The bayonet locks up tight and is in excellent shape. It comes with its original first pattern black leather sling, another hard-to-find accessory that completes the setup. The rifle overall is in good condition for its age. Metal has an honest, untouched patina, and the wood shows typical wear but no cracks. The stock roundel is still slightly visible, which is rare for a rifle of this age. All serial numbers and markings are clear. This is a very rare and complete setup‚perfect for collectors into early sniper configurations or French military history. Not something that comes up often. I have plenty of detailed photos available, so feel free to send through a message or call up. I'm open to all offers.
