Exceptional cased plated or polished steel London ‘51 Navy 36 cal; 7 ½” octagonal barrel with clear and crisp stamp: ADDRESS COL: COLT. LONDON. All matching numbers # 29429 making the production date 1855. British proof marks on cylinder shoulder between each chamber and on left side of the barrel lug. Faint cylinder scene still evident, action strong and crisp, nipples excellent, never dry fired. The metal work has some black marks and a small area of rubbing wear on the backstrap below the hammer (from where it lies in the case). The engraved W^D to right side of barrel lug is much rarer than the more common W^D stamp usually seen on the left barrel lug, (possibly done when refurbished). Lovely timber case with cap tin, bag flask, nipple wrench, bullet mould and oil bottle, unfortunately with small deep scratch each side probably from some idiot trying to open it with pliers? Printed loading and cleaning instructions in lid. The ledge at the back of the case is stamped ‘CPT. W.G.17L’. This may refer to a Captain of the 17th Lancers regiment, further study required.
