Rifle went from 270WSM to 300WSM because I had the opportunity to buy this brand new barrel. It's in stainless steel. Tikka barrel and Sako are identical. The barrel has been powered coated in black to match the action.
I am selling because I lost my licence. Otherwise, it would be a keeper.
Rifle has a tight chamber, according to Saami spec and the Smith.
The 300WSM has been optimised to shoot 165 to 180 gr.
Rifle twist is 1 in 11.
Chamber and twist won't allow for more bullet weight without intruding too deep. However it gives you precision and predictability.
At 23.5 barrel length should give you all the speed you ether need with AR 2209.
I bought one box of Winchester rapid expansion in 150, for sighting and to try. It shoots adequately at over 3000fps as advertised.
Took the brass and reloaded a mild load at 1mm from land for less recoil at 2850 with 150 Nosler. Just to see.
Shot 5 groups of 3 shots ranging from 2 to 2.5 cm groups at 100, velocity was extremely close to what the reloading book predicted. (ADI)
Went for a day hunt and did get two hares at well over 200m from my bag pack and that was it.
For the 300WSM factory ammunition, Winchester and Browning are the main offerings in Australia. Along with Sako.
