For sale is a Gewehr 98 rifle dated 1905, produced at the Amberg arsenal. This early example of Germany’s standard service rifle still retains its original unit-marked stock disk, stamped B.17.R.9.216, identifying it as rifle number 216 of the 9th Company, 17th Reserve Infantry Regiment. Clear, intact unit markings like this are increasingly scarce today and add greatly to its historical appeal.
The rifle shows the expected wear of a piece over a century old. The stock bears typical handling wear, while the receiver displays its Amberg crown proofs and 1905 date. The action cycles smoothly, making it a strong representative of a true Imperial German service arm. Rifle is matching through and through, bolt is un-numbered.
Included are two rare reproduction accessories: a trench magazine (and original matching floorplate) and a action mud cover. These faithful reproductions are difficult to source and faithfully capture the modifications and equipment once used by German troops in the trenches. Together with the rifle, they create a complete and historically evocative set. I also have an original Carl Zeiss Glasvisier 16 that im selling separate to the rifle, let me know if you are interested.
This is a desirable pre-war Amberg Gewehr 98 with both unit markings and hard-to-find reproduction accessories, making it a noteworthy addition for collectors and enthusiasts of early 20th-century arms. Call, text or email for a chat and more photos available. Always open to offers
