Comment: Something special for the collector. Very original Winchester 54 in 270 Winchester. Serial number 18001 making the year of manufacture 1928. The bore, bluing and furniture is excellent. In 1925, Winchester introduced the Model 54 bolt-action rifle as the first Winchester rifle made for high velocity heavy ammunition. The Model 54 was available in .270, 30-30, 30-06, 7mm, 7.65, 9 mm, .250-3000, .22 Hornet, .220 Swift, and .257 Roberts calibers. This rifle could be ordered with a round 20, 24 or 26 inch barrel, the forearm smooth or checkered, a walnut pistol-grip stock, and shotgun (originally metal) butt-plate. The frame and barrel were blued and had a solid feature. The Model 54’s I have shot with are always very accurate and honest. These rifles were essentially all built by hand by craftsmen at Winchester who took pride in their work. Close attention was obviously given to fitting of parts, stock inletting, and all the other little things that were important pertaining to accuracy and appearance. One needs not be a collector to appreciate these rifles. This rifle has been drilled and tapped but the purist, may which to have a gunsmith return too original. Used by many personalities in the golden age of shooting in the 1920’s and 1930, this firearm would be a delight to own.
